Neer Dosa(Pan polo) is a Udupi - Mangalorean delicacy where crepe is prepared from rice batter. Neer Dosa literally meaning water dosa in Tulu Language. This is very popular in Mangalore and Udupi area.
Potato Saung is a Konkani dish made of potatoes and cooked along with tamarind and red chillies. This dish is too appetizing.
Neer dosa goes very well with Potato saung and here is how to prepare it:
Cooking time: 30 minutes (Serving for 4 persons)
Ingredients:
Neer Dosa
· 1.5 cups grated coconut
· 1 tbsp salt
· 2 tbsp – as required to grease
Potato Saung
· 2 large size potato
· 1 tomato (optional) finely chopped
· 2 onions finely chopped
· 7 – 8 red chilies
· 2 tbsp grated coconut
· 1 tbsp coriander seeds
· ½ tbsp turmeric powder
· 1 small tamarind chunk
Instructions:
Preparing Neer Dosa
Soak the dosa rice overnight in enough water
Next day drain out the water and grind the rice along with coconut to a fine paste with just enough water.
Add salt to taste
Once it is a fine paste, add more water and make it as a watery batter (as name itself suggests 😊)
Heat a tawa on a medium heat. Once heated, grease oil onto the tawa.
Pour batter into the tawa and cover with a lid
After the Dosa is cooked, take it off the tawa and ready for serving.
Preparing Potato Saung
Heat the oil in a pan.
When the oil is hot, add the chopped onions and fry until its golden brown. Keep it aside for later use
Add 1/2 tbsp salt in the water and boil water in the vessel.
After 5 minutes, add potatoes in the water. Boil until potato is completely cooked.
Remove skin and mash the potatoes. Keep it aside for later use.
Heat the little oil in the pan
Add red chillies, coriander seeds, 2 tbsp grated coconut and roast them.
After it is cooled and grind this with tamarind, turmeric and little water
Take a heavy bottom pan, and add oil on medium heat.
Add the fried onions and the ground masala. Add salt, mix it well and leave it for 2 -3 minutes
Add the mashed potatoes and chopped tomatoes. Leave it for 2-3 minutes
· Add some water to bring it the consistency of a semi-dry curry.
